Daniels Family Meeting 2010 Minutes

Daniels’ Family Reunion
July 23 - 25, 2010

Jeff Daniels called the family meeting to order. He welcomed everyone that could make it to the reunion this year.

Paula urged everyone to send their reunion photos to her so that she could get them put on the 2010 Family Reunion disk. She also reminded us of the family directory and other information on the Daniels reunion blogspot.

Tim & Kathleen have volunteered to host the next family reunion in 2012. Their offer was accepted unanimously by everyone.

Janie will be updating the family reunion books and the family genealogy. She also wanted us to be thinking about the next generation (3rd generation) to begin hosting the family reunions in the future.

Janet would like for family members to bring more musical instruments to the next reunion. The Saturday evening jam session and Sunday morning worship were enjoyed by all.

A -- “BIG THANK YOU”-- was resonated to Jeff and Paula for all their efforts in organizing the 2008 and 2010 family reunions.

The meeting was adjourned with Rick giving the Lord’s blessing over the entire family.

The Reviews are In!

Following are some of the emails we have received after the reunion.  I think it was a huge success.  Almost all of the 1st cousins were there and it was so much fun to see the "next" generation bonding as well, especially the "teenagers"!  Look for pictures and minutes to be posted soon.  I am also finalizing the "Daniels Family Reunions, Volume 1" DVD and will be mailing them out, so look for them in the mail.
Paula

Paula & Jeff:
Thanks so much for all your hard work on the reunion! Mom & Dad & I really had a good time! It was great to see everyone - boy have all the kids really grown (hadn't seen them myself in 4 years - makes a big difference at that age). Sorry we weren't able to stay for the worship & meeting on Sunday - …

Thanks again - take care - see you next time - or stop by if in Colorado (will do the same if in Arizona).
Your Cousin - Dan

Jeff and Paula,
I wanted to thank you both for all of the hard work that you did to organize the Daniels' Reunion. I think that camp is a nice facility and the food was fine. I had no trouble finding food to eat. I'm so glad that I came to the reunion because I needed to be with family.

Again, thanks for all you did to make the Daniels' Reunion nice.
Love,
Teresa

Thank you Teresa…..
We had a blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We think will be able to get the nicer leadership lodge in 2 years if we return to Rock Springs. I really think we will. Tim and Kathleen will take care of the logistics. Leadership Lodge is huge and much more modern.
One of my favorite moments of the reunion is right before the last lunch. People were packing up and mom was just standing around and looking. I told her to go ahead and sit down instead of standing. She said: “I don’t want to sit by myself; I won’t have anyone to talk to.” I said: “I will sit with you, Mom”. We sat down and within 10 minutes a group had gathered. There must have been 20 people just sharing stories and laughing… waiting for lunch!!!!
What a memory….
Jeff

Paula –
Hope everyone made it home “without a hitch”. I can’t remember a reunion that I’ve enjoyed more than this one. I have to agree with Jeff – the best part of getting together is everyone around the circle – talking about the old days. I can remember a time (when I was a kid) that I thought the “old folks” were silly about this type of thing. Showing my age, I guess.

Did Kathleen have any ideas for the next reunion? Can’t wait.
I’ve attached the minutes. Let me know if I need to add, change, or omit anything.

Thanks for the quick response everyone!!!

Here is the current attendance if this is not correct please let me know ASAP!!!!

Tim & Kathleen Dalton (2 youth)
Patrick & Tammy Daniels (2 youths & 2 children)
Ruth Borthwick (1 youth)
Katelyn Borthwick (2 adults)
Lauren Borthwick
Some side notes:
I have been going through some photos and have added and improved the DVD. Plus added 2008!
I will have DVDs available for anyone who wants one at the reunion.

I believe 1998 Colorado Reunion was the last one the Hubbards attended (REALLY could it have been THAT long?) and 2000 Missouri was the last one Patrick and Kathleen attended! WOW!

We have a total of 63 attending this year which is one of the largest reunions yet. Colorado and Missouri are close seconds and I don’t have the exact numbers from those reunions. But we are a productive bunch so we do have more people to invite. Maybe we should look at percent instead.

Remember to check out the map to Rock Springs. DON’T rely on a Garmin/GPS to get you there. It WILL give you wrong directions. The address isn’t exactly where it really is!

Finally, be sure to order your 2010 Reunion T-shirts, coffee cups, mouse pads, etc.

Jeff & I are getting so excited about the 2010 Reunion!!
See you in TWO weeks!!

Latest Snail Mail

Here is the latest snail mail to go out!  I have added hot links to the additional information and of course the individual family receipts aren't included.  If you didn't receive the snail mail check the family directory page to see if I have a correct address.
Also, you can see our contact information at the bottom of the right-hand column.

Daniels Family Reunion
July 23rd-25th
Rock Springs 4-H Center
1168 Highway 157
Junction City KS 66441

We are so excited about the 2010 Reunion. It looks like we will have 72 people attending!!! Following is some final information to help plan your trip.

For those attending, I included your family's total cost on the next page (in the actual mailing only) so that you know what to expect. You can send these funds in now or give us a check at the reunion. Don’t forget that scholarships are available. Donations to the scholarship fund are also always appreciated. If you haven't already, please send in your family dues ASAP this will help with the deposit. If you would like to put any of this on a card through PayPal, contact Jeff about that.

Included are Health and Participation Forms, we need to have one filled out per person attending. Again, you can send these in now or when you arrive at the reunion. If you are not attending this year’s reunion then I did not include these.

For those who aren’t attending, it’s NEVER too late.

Plan to arrive after 6 p.m. on the 23rd. A cold supper will be available for your arrival. All meals on Saturday and Sunday are in the main dining hall; they are buffet style (all you can eat!!!!!). The last meal we have scheduled, and paid for, is Sunday lunch so plan to stay for lunch. Check out is 2:00 pm Sunday.

We have the Hansen Cottage and the Weatherwax Cottage to ourselves. They are fully air conditioned and similar to the building we had last year. All buildings have always been non-smoking (there are smoking areas outside). These cottages are near the creek and closer to the fishing than we were last year. So be sure to bring your fishing gear. Basketball, disc golf, and horseshoes is available as well. We are signed up for the Leadership team-building course, swimming, and canoeing, which were a blast last year. We will find out when we are scheduled for these activities upon our arrival.

The cost includes all meals, snacks, activities and two nights lodging per person; Adults - $120; Age 7 to 17 - $110 and age 6 & under - free. Again, it will be all-inclusive and per person for the entire weekend.

There is now a family directory available on the reunion blogspot, please check it and let us know if there are any corrections that need to be made. Also, added to the blog is detailed information about Rock Springs maps and the Health Forms. Finally, check back often for the latest updates and see who's attending!

Reunion Update!

WHO'S ATTENDING
We have heard from ALMOST everyone!!! And our numbers have gone UP!!! We now have 70 family members attending (see list below) including babies and 3 maybes. I am so excited that we will have one of the largest turn-outs of the second generation. We are only missing, Teresa, Debby, Diann & Donald! (not including outlaws and 3rd/4th generations) I wish they could all make it but... life happens even during family reunion weekends.  Sadly, Jay and Rachel's family aren't represented at all. We have heard from Rachel and she won't be able to make it. We have hit a dead end in trying to contact ANY of Jay's family. Any ideas??? We had an address and phone number for Diann. The reunion letter wasn't returned but the phone number is no longer in service.

ACTIVITIES
Please let us know which activities you would like to do. If you don't speak up we won't get it scheduled! *Additional costs: Horseback riding has an additional charge of $40 flat rate for the group. If you want to ride then we will just divide this cost among those who go riding. There is also a Trap Range and Rifle Range, each are charged per shot.

Scheduled Activities:
Archery, Canoeing, Swimming, Environmental and Historical Adventures, Team building/ Leadership Adventure Course, Horse Rides*, Trap Range* & Rifle Range*

Unscheduled Activities:
Basketball, Sand Volleyball, Softball, Disc Golf, and Horseshoes

Please let us know which activities you would like to do. We have already requested the Leadership Adventure Course (we did this last time and had a ball). We MUST know on the Scheduled Activites by May 30th or we won't get them. Knowing on the unscheduled activities will simply help us and Rock Springs plan the weekend better.

COSTS
For your planning purposes. Just a reminder. The cost for your weekend, not including extra activities:
Adults - $120 for the WHOLE weekend – ALL lodging and food is included
Youths - 6-18 yrs old - $110 for the WHOLE weekend – ALL lodging and food is included

We are getting so excited about this year's reunion!!
Jeff and I have been talking to many of you through email, phone calls and facebook!

Our initial numbers are 64 (including little ones) but we haven't heard from some that we are hoping will make it. I'm happy to say that there have only been a handful of "not attending".  The primary reasons are weddings, work schedules, moving or having babies.  Life happens.  If we haven't heard from you, let us know ASAP.  Remember, at this point a maybe is the same as a yes, we are looking for MAX numbers.

Finances are not allowed to be an excuse!!!  We have SCHOLARSHIP money available!!!  Please contact Jeff or I directly and you will be covered for the cost of the reunion, completely confidentially.  Just get there!

We do have a small list of people that we haven't been able to get a hold of.  We did send snail mail letters to Dick & Diann and Donald but have heard back.  We do not have current emails or phone numbers for any of them.  HELP!  Does any one know how to reach these family members???
Haven't reached!!!

Family Letter

Here is a copy of the "snail" mail letter that will be going out to the whole family this week. Yes, there are a handful of "non-technical" family members. So read it below AND look for it in your mailbox next week!

Hi Everyone :):):)

The Daniels' Family Reunion will be on the weekend of July 23rd - 25th, 2010.

Rock Springs 4-H Center
1168 Highway 157
Junction City KS 66441

We will have the Hansen Cottage and the Weatherwax Cottage to ourselves. They are fully air conditioned and similar to the building we had last year. This actually gives us more rooms to spread out and have more privacy and more facilities. All buildings have always been non-smoking (there are smoking areas outside). Accommodations will be for Friday and Saturday nights.

You should plan to arrive after 6 p.m. on the 23rd. A cold supper will be available for your arrival. All meals on Saturday and Sunday are in the main dining hall; they are buffet style (all you can eat!!!!!). The last meal we have scheduled, and paid for, is Sunday lunch so plan to stay for lunch.
These cottages are near the creek and closer to the fishing than we were last year. For the younger crowd, basketball, sand volleyball, softball, disc golf, and horseshoes is available as well. If we want, we can also have a horse trail ride for a minimal cost (less than $2.00 per person). Please go to the website, www.rocksprings.net , along the left-hand bar select "Activities" then check out the "Scheduled Activities", these activities we need to know interest beforehand, such as the horse trail ride. Or check out the activities on the enclosed brochure (see previous blog). We plan to sign up for the team-building course, which was a blast last year.
We have not received the paperwork yet for this contract so we do NOT know what this year’s cost will be. The cost for the last reunion, which included all meals, snacks, most activities and two nights lodging per person, was; Adults - $120; Age 6 to 17 - $110 and under age 6 - free
Again, it will be all-inclusive and per person for the weekend. We just do not know the exact amount yet however it should be very similar.
Speaking of cost…Family dues are due! We will need this in order to pay Rock Springs a deposit along with a tentative head count by November 1st. So start looking at your calendars and send in $40 per family and $20 per single for family dues. Payments can be made to Jeff by paypal, cash, or check. FYI our balance from the reunion fund from last year is $461. This and family dues will, of course, help lower everyone’s cost.
Finally, we included our latest spreadsheet of family information. Please update it with any corrections you may have. Thank you to those who have already sent corrections!
Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing many of you in July!

IT'S OFFICIAL!!! We have a date!

It's official!!! We have the Hansen & Weatherwax Cottages at Rock Springs for the weekend of July 23rd-25th. Check it out at http://www.rocksprings.net/
Hansen Cottage sleeps 64-80 people, however the 16 extra are trundle beds so we have Weatherwax which holds 25 people, for overflow.
We would LOVE to pack out both buildings!!!
Hansen Cottage has a common room where we can gather. Which as we know is a key feature for Daniels reunions.
Details will be coming out as we get them.
For now we need to get a head count, family dues (see minutes) and feedback for which activities people want to do. Go to the website, along the lefthand bar select "Activities" then check out the "Scheduled Activities". These are the ones that we need to know interest beforehand.
